Every Mile Inspires a Future.

Across Nevada, thousands of students have little opportunity to experience agriculture firsthand. The Nevada Ag Wagonis changing that—one mile, one classroom, and one community at a time.

As a traveling agriculture education exhibit, the Nevada Ag Wagon brings hands-on learning directly to schools, county fairs, community events, and agricultural celebrations throughout the Silver State. Through interactive exhibits and engaging activities, students discover where their food comes from, learn about Nevada agriculture, and gain a deeper appreciation for the farmers and ranchers who work every day to provide the food, fiber, and resources we all depend on.

For many children, stepping inside the Ag Wagon is their very first connection to agriculture. It’s an experience that sparks curiosity, encourages questions, and creates lasting memories that can inspire a lifelong appreciation for our agricultural industry.

Bringing Agriculture to Communities Across Nevada

Nevada is one of the largest states in the nation, and many students don’t have the opportunity to visit a farm or ranch. That’s why the Nevada Farm Bureau brings agriculture directly to them.

The Nevada Ag Wagon travels throughout the state, meeting students where they are, whether that’s at a rural school, an urban classroom, a county fair, or a community festival.

Each stop provides an opportunity for students and families to explore agriculture through hands-on experiences that make learning fun, memorable, and meaningful.

Our mission is simple:

To help every Nevadan better understand where their food comes from and the vital role agriculture plays in our everyday lives.

Why We Need Your Support

Every mile the Ag Wagon travels helps educate and inspire the next generation—but keeping it on the road takes a community that believes in the importance of agriculture education.

Your support helps provide:

Take the Ag Wagon farther. Help us reach multiple schools, county fairs, and communities across Nevada, expanding agriculture education one stop at a time.

🌎 Ag Education Champion — $500

Become a driving force behind agriculture education. Your leadership helps the Nevada Ag Wagon travel farther, reach more communities, and inspire thousands of students across the Silver State.

Today’s Visit Was Fueled By…

One of the most exciting parts of the Fuel the Nevada Ag Wagon campaign is recognizing the individuals, families, businesses, and organizations that make each visit possible.

Road Trip Sponsors and Ag Education Champions will be recognized with a “Today’s Visit Was Fueled By” sponsor sign displayed alongside the Nevada Ag Wagon during sponsored events.

Whether it’s a local ranching family, an agricultural business, a community partner, or a supporter who simply believes in agriculture education, every sponsor helps make another Ag Wagon visit possible.

Sponsors will also be recognized through Nevada Farm Bureau’s website, social media, and campaign updates as we share the impact their generosity has made throughout the year.

More Than Miles

Every stop the Nevada Ag Wagon makes represents something much bigger than another destination.

It represents a classroom filled with excitement.

A child planting the first seed of curiosity.

A teacher gaining valuable educational resources.

A family learning something new about agriculture.

A community connecting with the farmers and ranchers who feed Nevada and our nation.

Every mile traveled creates another opportunity to inspire the next generation and strengthen the connection between agriculture and the people it serves.

The Journey Starts With You

The Nevada Ag Wagon wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of supporters who believe agriculture education matters.

When you make a gift, you’re doing more than fueling a vehicle—you’re helping deliver experiences that students will remember for years to come.

Together, we’re introducing young learners to the importance of agriculture, encouraging curiosity about the world around them, and helping ensure future generations understand the vital role farming and ranching play in Nevada.

Your support keeps the wheels turning, the lessons growing, and the journey moving forward.

On Sunday, April 12th, the Clark County Farm Bureau finished an exciting week at the Clark County Fair in Logandale, Nevada. Their display this year featured new activities, as well as the return of some longtime favorites.

Continuing her annual run at the fair was “Moolisa the Milk Cow,” who was milked by fairgoers of all ages. Also back was the “seed baby station,” where volunteers helped children assemble seed necklaces and taught them about the growth cycle of plants. For the second year, the county ran a coloring station and button press, this year adding “Clark County Fair and Rodeo” and the fair’s theme for America’s 250th, “Red, Wild, and Blue,” making them more of a souvenir than in previous years. CCFB also dusted off some older displays, showcasing beef cuts and beef by-products, along with a large matching game for toddlers that paired mother animals with their babies.

CCFB also invited fairgoers to “pull up a chair” and take a family photo. CCFB member Noah Reid constructed a large 9-foot-tall wooden chair for a photo op. The chair was decorated with the Farm Bureau logo and the tagline “Celebrating 250 Years of American Agriculture.” It’s estimated that over the five days, about 1,000 people utilized the photo location. Another new activity was “Fair Finds,” an interactive scavenger hunt that could be played online or with pencil and paper. Players scoured the barn looking for answers to ag questions and returned to the Farm Bureau booth for a cold Otter-Pop, which was a welcome treat during the Moapa Valley’s warm April temperatures.

The Nevada Dairy Council utilized part of CCFB’s space on Wednesday and Thursday. Their booth had attendees saying “cheese”—literally—as they handed out samples of popcorn flavored like cheese pizza, mac and cheese, and white cheddar. They also had a hat-decorating station. The Dairy Council also sponsored the Clark County Junior Livestock Educational Display Contest.

Clark County Farm Bureau also sponsored the CCJLA’s lamb show and a Young Farmers & Ranchers-style Discussion Meet, meant to showcase what it’s like to deliberate in a board meeting. The competition was open to FFA students and senior 4-H members from across Clark County and was part of the CCJLA’s Saturday and Sunday entertainment lineup for the fair.

All week long, the booth stayed busy—not just with activities, but with conversations. From young kids learning where their food comes from for the first time, to parents asking questions about Nevada agriculture, to longtime producers stopping by to visit, the Farm Bureau booth once again served as a place where agriculture and community came together.

None of it would have been possible without the volunteers who showed up early, stayed late, and put in the time to make it all happen. From helping kids string their first seed necklace, to running the button press, to answering questions and keeping things moving in a packed barn, their efforts are what made the week a success. Clark County Farm Bureau also extends its thanks to those who donated materials, displays, and time—including partners like the Nevada Dairy Council, CCJLA, UNR Extension, and the fair board—for continuing to provide opportunities to highlight agriculture in Clark County.

As the fair wraps up for another year, Clark County Farm Bureau is already looking ahead—building on what worked, improving what can be better, and continuing its mission to connect the public with the farmers and ranchers who feed them.

Nevada agriculture may look different from other states, but its impact is just as powerful. From multi-generation ranching families to innovative producers adapting to arid conditions, agriculture remains a cornerstone of Nevada’s economy, communities, and way of life.

With more than 3,400 farms and ranches across the state, Nevada producers manage millions of acres of rangeland while supplying high-quality beef, hay, dairy products, onions, mint, alfalfa seed, and more. These operations not only feed families but also support local economies, preserve open spaces, and sustain rural communities.

Challenges Unique to the Silver State

Nevada farmers and ranchers face challenges that are uniquely Western: water availability, drought, wildfire risk, rising input costs, labor shortages, and regulatory pressures. Despite these obstacles, producers continue to adapt through innovation, conservation practices, and collaboration.

Water stewardship remains a top priority, with producers using advanced irrigation technology, rangeland management practices, and conservation partnerships to ensure resources are protected for future generations.

The Role of Nevada Farm Bureau

Nevada Farm Bureau exists to support these producers through advocacy, education, and member services. By representing agriculture at the local, state, and national levels, Farm Bureau ensures that farmers’ and ranchers’ voices are heard where decisions are made.

In addition to advocacy, Nevada Farm Bureau provides valuable resources including:

Educational programs and leadership development

Ag in the Classroom initiatives connecting students to agriculture

Member savings and benefits through trusted partners

Opportunities for young farmers, ranchers, and women leaders

Connecting Agriculture and the Public

As fewer Nevadans grow up on farms or ranches, connecting consumers with agriculture is more important than ever. Programs like Ag in the Classroom, farm tours, and community outreach help bridge the gap between producers and the public, building understanding and appreciation for where food comes from.

Looking Ahead

Nevada agriculture is built on resilience, innovation, and a deep respect for the land. With strong leadership, engaged members, and a commitment to advocacy, Nevada Farm Bureau will continue working to protect agriculture today while preparing for tomorrow.

Together, we can ensure that Nevada’s agricultural heritage remains strong for generations to come.

Cooking a Thanksgiving feast for your friends and family will cost less than last year but will still be more expensive than before the pandemic. The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 39th annual Thanksgiving dinner survey provides a snapshot of the average cost of this year’s classic holiday feast for 10, which is $58.08 or about $5.80 per person.

This is a 5% decrease from 2023, which was 4.5% lower than 2022. Two years of declines don’t erase dramatic increases that led to a record high cost of $64.06 in 2022. Despite the encouraging momentum, a Thanksgiving meal is still 19% higher than it was in 2019, which highlights the impact inflation has had on food prices – and farmers’ costs – since the pandemic.

The centerpiece on most Thanksgiving tables – the turkey – helped bring down the overall cost of dinner. The average price for a 16-pound turkey is $25.67. That is $1.60 per pound, down 6% from last year.

Farm Bureau volunteer shoppers checked prices Nov. 1-7, before most grocery store chains began featuring whole frozen turkeys at sharply lower prices. According to USDA Agricultural Marketing Service data, the average per-pound feature price for whole frozen turkeys declined further during the second week of November. Consumers who have not yet purchased a turkey may find additional savings in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

“The turkey is traditionally the main attraction on the Thanksgiving table and is typically the most expensive part of the meal,” said AFBF Economist Bernt Nelson. “The American turkey flock is the smallest it’s been since 1985 because of avian influenza, but overall demand has also fallen, resulting in lower prices at the grocery store for families planning a holiday meal.”

The shopping list for Farm Bureau’s informal survey includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream, all in quantities sufficient to serve a gathering of 10.

Most ingredients in the survey saw a decline in prices, including fresh vegetables. The drop in prices reflects price volatility in crops this year. The cost of whole milk dropped more than 14%. Favorable weather contributed to the decline in milk pricing. It is important to note, however, that milk prices vary significantly between regions in the U.S.

Items like dinner rolls and cubed stuffing both saw an 8% increase because higher labor costs, among other drivers, are increasing the cost of processed food. Cranberry prices increased almost 12% year-over-year. In 2023, cranberries had the second largest decrease in price of any products in our basket at 18%. The increase this year puts cranberry prices closer to historic norms and, excluding last year, is the least expensive year since 2015.

“We should all be thankful that we live in a country with such an abundant food supply,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “We are seeing modest improvements in the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for a second year, but America’s families, including farm families, are still being hurt by high inflation.”

“America has one of the most affordable food supplies in the world. In order to maintain that, we need a strong farm bill which enables Americans to pursue their dreams without worrying about feeding their families,” Duvall said. “A new farm bill with a modernized safety net to support those who raise crops and livestock ensures farmers can survive tough economic times and continue to supply food for America’s families, not just for the holidays, but year-round.”

In recognition of changes in Thanksgiving dinner traditions, the Farm Bureau price survey also includes boneless ham, Russet potatoes and frozen green beans, in an expanded menu. Adding these foods to the classic Thanksgiving menu increased the overall cost by $19.26, to $77.34.

This year’s national average cost was calculated using surveys completed with pricing data from all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Farm Bureau volunteer shoppers checked prices in person and online using grocery store apps and websites. They looked for the best possible prices without taking advantage of special promotional coupons or combined purchase deals.

The AFBF Thanksgiving dinner survey was first conducted in 1986. The informal survey provides a record of comparative holiday meal costs over the years. Farm Bureau’s classic survey menu has remained unchanged since 1986 to allow for consistent price comparisons.

Individual Prices

16-pound turkey: $25.67 or $1.60 per pound (down 6.1%)

14-ounces of cubed stuffing mix: $4.08 (up 8.2%)

2 frozen pie crusts: $3.40 (down 2.9%)

1 pound of frozen peas: $1.73 (down 8.1%)

1 dozen dinner rolls: $4.16 (up 8.4%)

Misc. ingredients to prepare the meal: $3.75 (down 5.1%)

30-ounce can of pumpkin pie mix: $4.15 (down 6.5%)

1 gallon of whole milk: $3.21 (down 14.3%)

3 pounds of sweet potatoes: $2.93 (down 26.2%)

1-pound veggie tray (carrots & celery): $.84 (down 6.4%)

12-ounce bag of fresh cranberries: $2.35 (up 11.8%)

Regional Averages

AFBF analysis revealed regional differences in the cost of the meal. The cost for the classic meal was the most affordable in the South at $56.81, followed by the Northeast at $57.36, the Midwest at $58.90, and then a significant jump in the West at $67.81. The expanded meal (classic meal plus boneless ham, Russet potatoes and green beans) was the most affordable in the South at $81.07, the Northeast at $81.37, the Midwest at $83.04, and least affordable in the West at $94.09.

Join Us For The YF&R Discussion Meet

Who’s excited for the 2023 Nevada Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) Discussion Meet. We are looking for people to compete between the ages of 18 and 35. This is a great opportunity to become involved in the YF&R program.

The objective of the YF&R program is to surface, grow and develop young Farm Bureau members and provide them opportunities and experiences to strengthen their leadership and ensure effective Farm Bureaus. The program is also focused on personal growth in the following areas: public speaking, issue advocacy, business development, networking, service leadership, media training and telling the story of agriculture.

The Discussion Meet is a competitive event that simulates a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. The competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Participants build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems.

Each year the American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R committee releases a set of five questions that states use when they hold their annual Discussion Meets. The Nevada Farm Bureau has their annual Discussion Meet at the Nevada Farm Bureau Annual Meeting that will be held this November 9th through the 11th at the CasaBlanca Resort and Casino in Mesquite, Nevada. The lucky winner will not only take home a cash prize, but will also move on to compete at the American Farm Bureau Annual YF&R Discussion meet that will be held January 19 through the 24 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Not only is this a great opportunity to meet people throughout the state of Nevada it’s a great way to make connections with people from other states as well. Again, we highly encourage you to think about competing in this year’s YF&R Discussion Meet if you are between the ages of 18 and 35. If you would like more information please feel free to contact Brittney Money at brittney@nvfb.org.

If interested the following questions will be the questions selected at random for the Discussion Meet at this year’s Annual Nevada Farm Bureau Meeting. Get a jump start on the competition by researching the following questions:

1.Production agriculture requires a lot of capital. Young farmers and ranchers face challenges gaining access to the capital they need to start or grow their operations. What tools are currently available, and what new programs could be introduced, to help young people access financial resources—and make sound financial decisions—to run their farms and ranches?

2.Working with elected officials, in all levels of government, is critical to advancing public policy that supports farmers and ranchers. How can Farm Bureau help elected leaders better understand the challenges of the agriculture sector and the importance of supporting the financial viability of America’s family farms and ranches?

3.What is sustainable agriculture and how can Farm Bureau help farmers and ranchers access market-based solutions that advance sustainability goals without restricting their ability to stock America’s pantries, help feed a growing population and maintain farm profitability?

4.Farmers and ranchers across the country are diverse in not only the goods they produce,

but also in the ways they raise and market them. Farm Bureau’s role is to broadly represent all producers. How can our organization further welcome and engage diverse agricultural communities and cultivate dynamic future Farm Bureau leaders?

5.Agriculture uses water for everything from growing crops, raising livestock and moving products to and from farms and ranches. Water issues are often hotly debated, are unique to each region and can pose significant challenges to growers. How can Farm Bureau help address water management challenges and seek long term solutions for farmers and ranchers?

We encourage you to look over the following questions and think about joining us this November for the Discussion Meet.

If interested the American Farm Bureau Federation releases a series of Zoom meetings to get a better understanding of the Discussion Meet as well as tips and tricks on how to succeed.

Celebrating the 4th of July with a cookout will cost significantly more than two years ago, although prices have fallen slightly from record highs in 2022. Families will pay $67.73 to host an Independence Day cookout with 10 family members or friends, based on the 2023 American Farm Bureau Federation marketbasket survey.

The $67.73 grocery bill is down 3% from 2022, but still approximately 14% higher than prices were just two years ago. Last year set a record high since AFBF began the survey in 2013, and 2023 comes in as the second-highest cost. The cookout favorites include cheeseburgers, chicken breasts, pork chops, homemade potato salad, strawberries and ice cream, among other products.

“The slight downward direction in the cost of a cookout doesn’t counter the dramatic increases we’ve seen over the past few years. Families are still feeling the pinch of high inflation along with other factors keeping prices high,” said AFBF Chief Economist Roger Cryan. “Don’t assume farmers come out as winners from higher prices at the grocery store either. They’re price takers, not price makers, whose share of the retail food dollar is just 14%. Farmers have to pay for fuel, fertilizer and other expenses, which have all gone up in cost.”

The marketbasket survey shows a year-to-year increase in the cost of hamburger buns, beef and potato salad, while there are drops in the cost of chicken breasts, lemonade and cookies.

The retail price for a package of eight hamburger buns increased 17% to $2.26. Homemade potato salad will cost $3.44, up 5% from 2022. The cost of 2 pounds of ground beef rose 4% to $11.54.

Several factors influence the increases. Drought conditions have increased the cost of feed and reduced the number of available cattle for the summer grilling season, driving up beef prices. Higher potato prices can be attributed to poor weather leading to a drop in production, and general inflation is driving up the price of processed foods like bread.

Our survey found one exception to the increased price of processed foods. A package of cookies will cost 10% less than 2022. The price of chicken breasts and eggs, which had reached record-high prices in 2022, are both lower. This is good news as the number of avian influenza cases has fallen, which has allowed chicken populations to recover. Lemonade is 16% less expensive, at $3.73, due to a drop in the cost of lemons.

Although historically high, the cost of the cookout breaks down to less than $7 per person. When put in a global context, Americans spend a smaller percentage of their income on food than any other country.

AFBF President Zippy Duvall said, “While the increased costs are difficult and have made it more challenging for some families to put food on the table, it’s important to remember that America still has one of the most affordable food supplies in the world, which is due in part to strong farm bill programs. As we all celebrate the holiday, we encourage members of Congress to consider the contributions of the farm bill to our security and independence by ensuring a safe and abundant food supply.”

The federal government’s broader Consumer Price Index report for food at home shows an overall increase of 5.8% compared to a year ago. Farm Bureau’s informal marketbasket survey examines only those foods commonly associated with summer cookouts.

The July 4th cookout survey is part of the Farm Bureau marketbasket series, which also includes the popular annual Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Survey of common food staples Americans use to prepare meals at home.

Volunteer shoppers across the country, including Farm Bureau members and others, collected data from 240 different stores in every state and Puerto Rico.

Individual Prices, AFBF 2023 Summer Cookout

2 pounds of ground beef, $11.54 (+4%)

2 pounds of chicken breasts, $8.14 (-9%)

3 pounds of pork chops, $14.37 (-6%)

1 pound of cheese, $3.53 (no change)

1 package of hamburger buns, $2.26 (+17%)

2 ½ pounds of homemade potato salad, $3.44 (+5%)

32 ounces of pork and beans, $2.44 (-3%)

16-ounce bag of potato chips, $4.53 (-4%)

13-ounce package of chocolate chip cookies, $3.90 (-10%)

½ gallon of ice cream, $5.29 (+3%)

2 pints of strawberries, $4.56 (+3%)

2 ½ quarts of lemonade, $3.73 (-16%)

This year with the help of Nevadans across the state we were able to see how our state food prices compared to the national average. Here in Nevada for a 10 person BBQ it will cost you $80.77. Unfortunately, that is 19.2% higher than the national average. We had significantly higher prices on eggs and cheese compared to the national average.
