Farmers’ Input Needed on Biosolids Use and EPA Guidance

Farmers with firsthand experience using biosolids are being asked to share their perspectives following the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recently released guidance related to PFAS in biosolids.

Biosolids are nutrient-rich, treated solid organic materials derived from municipal wastewater treatment plants that may be applied to agricultural land. For the purposes of this survey, biosolids do not include manure.

As EPA continues its work in this area, it is important that the experiences of farmers who have actually used biosolids are part of the conversation. Real-world information from producers can help provide a clearer understanding of how biosolids are used on farms, the practices surrounding their application, and the potential impacts of future policies or regulations.
