News & Media / July 30, 2020

As schools begin planning for the fall semester, so begins preparing for Ag in the Classroom events throughout the state. Teachers are looking for new and innovative resources to implement in person and virtually. There have been several new Ag Literacy resources made available that can be implemented into the classroom and events.

The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture has resources such as Ag Mags, Livestock Banners, Books of the year, Teacher Guides, and more! The 2020 Book of the Year is “Full of Beans” and has a matching Teacher’s Guide and Ag Mag.

The American Farm Bureau Foundation also released a new Ag Mag this year. The Entomology Ag Mag is a four-page magazine made for 3rd-5th graders that covers the science of insects. These Ag Mags come in sets of 30, perfect for average classroom sizes!  All topics covered by Ag Mags are:

  • Ag Innovations

The AFBF Promotion & Education Committee has shared a continually updated document with links to useful digital resources that help convey the importance of Agriculture. This document includes links to lessons and activities from American Farm Bureau, National Ag in the Classroom, Bayer, and Cattlemen’s Beef Board and Beef Producers. The document is available to Farm Bureau Members via The Feed or by contacting brieanna@nvfb.org.

The Nevada Ag Foundation has collaborated to create the Nevada Agriculture and Water Educational Series. This booklet has 5 lessons that align with Nevada 3rd-5th grade standards. Lesson cover topics from the history and importance of water to how agriculture is being conservation aware. The booklet also includes access to a Water & Agriculture Video series. This would be an ideal resource for Nevada Educators or a resource to provide to Educators at Ag in the Classroom events.
