Put Your Ag Knowledge to the Test at the YF&R Discussion Meet

Are you ready to share your ideas, strengthen your leadership skills, and put your agricultural knowledge to the test? Nevada Farm Bureau is looking for competitors for the 2026 Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Discussion Meet, happening Thursday, November 12, during the 107th Nevada Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.

The Discussion Meet is a competitive event designed to simulate a committee meeting. Rather than a debate, competitors work together to discuss an agricultural issue, exchange ideas, identify possible solutions, and build toward common ground. Participants are evaluated on their knowledge of the topic, communication skills, ability to engage with others, and contributions to the overall discussion.

It’s a great opportunity to sharpen your public speaking skills, learn more about issues facing agriculture, meet other young agricultural leaders, and get more involved with Farm Bureau.

And There Are Prizes!

The Nevada Discussion Meet winner will take home a custom championship belt buckle AND a cash prize!

Even better, the state winner will have the opportunity to advance and represent Nevada at the national level.

Who Can Compete?

The YF&R program is open to Farm Bureau members ages 18–35. Whether you farm or ranch yourself, work in agriculture, or are simply passionate about the future of the industry, we would love to have you compete!

Start Preparing Now — 2027 Discussion Meet Questions

Competitors can get a head start by researching this year’s five predetermined topics:

1. Rural Energy Infrastructure
How can Farm Bureau advocate for proactive energy planning that keeps energy reliable and affordable for rural communities while protecting agricultural land from unnecessary eminent domain?

2. Rural & Large Animal Veterinarians
With the number of rural and large-animal veterinary professionals declining, how can Farm Bureau help attract and retain veterinarians in rural communities?

3. Local Meat Processing
How can Farm Bureau use its grassroots network to reduce barriers and create opportunities for more local USDA-certified meat processing?

4. Growing YF&R
How can Farm Bureau and young agricultural leaders strengthen relationships with agricultural youth organizations to bring more young leaders into the YF&R program?

5. Agriculture, Food & Public Health
As public conversations around healthy diets, childhood disease, modern agriculture, and the food system continue, how can Farm Bureau effectively participate while advocating for science-based tools and research farmers need to produce healthy and sustainable food, fiber, and fuel?
